We had a very good time between seeing all the Elk, hearing all the Elk, and swimming in the hotel swimming pool.

Fishing Trip

Last weekend was Hank's birthday fishing trip.

We stayed at the Melody Cabins in Heeney, Colorado, which is about a 20 minute drive West of Silverthorne. The cabins are situated on the Blue River inlet on the Green Mountain Reservoir.

The cabins were a bit rustic, but very nice. The cabin we had comfortably sleeps 6 to 7 people, and had a nice sized kitchen. The couple that owns the cabins are very nice. The were very accomidating and willing to help us out with anything we needed. This was very nice as we did need to borrow an crecent wrench to tighten some bolts on the boat trailer. Without it, I think a few resting planks would have been broken and the trailer would have some significant damage.

We arrived Friday afternoon. Hank, Mike, and I fished the inlet for a few hours and caught 4 fish between us.

Saturday morning, we launched the boat and trolled the west shore of the lake up to the dam. In the morning session, 10 fish were caught between 5 of us, and in the afternoon session, we towed a disabled boat across the lake and still caught 9 fish before calling it a day.

Sunday morning, we returned to the inlet very early in the morning. But once the sun came up, the "salmon fishermen" showed up. These people had no courtesy for any of us. They moved in as close to us as possible. One guy even decided it would be a good idea to fish over the top of Mark, literally. The guy stood about 5 feet directly above Mark and cast into his line. Mark had to quickly reel in his line so it would not get snagged.

If you do not know how to fish salmon in the fall during the run, you throw a very heavy lead weight that has 3 hooks on it into the water. You then reel in a little, then very quickly jerk the rod in an attempt to snag a salmon. When salmon are running, they do not eat, so this is really the only way to catch them; if you can call it fishing.

Anyways, at that point we had already caught 10 fish between the 5 of us, so we told off everybody in earshot and left.

Except for the last 2 hours of the trip, it was very fun!

It was also nice to find out that the boat can tow another boat with no problem. In case the situation should come up again.
